Butterfly Cubes
Our butterfly cubes are made of acrylic molded plastic, and are approximately 4"x4"x8" high. We artistically add silk
floral around and to a piece of cork bark, which then has 3 or more colorful butterflies glued to it. We prefer to use cork bark as it is the only tree in the world that can regrow its own bark back without any injury to the tree.
Double glass frames
We take 3/4" thick red oak and plane and sand it smooth, router a rounded edge to the sides and cut two deep rabbet channels into the wood for the glass to float.
The finishing touches include a penetrating wood stain and several coats of high gloss clear lacquer. All frames come wall ready with a sawtooth hanger on the back, but can also be stood up on a shelf or table top.
Shadowbox frames
Most of our shadowbox frames are black, with the occasional maple thrown in to accentuate the paper and butterfly colors, and are 1 1/4" deep. The first step to finishing them is to squeeze a bead of silicone onto the inside edge where the glass comes into contact with it and creates a seal. The designer
papers and or matboards are all acid free and coordinate with the colors of the chosen butterflies. To finish up these frames, we tape the back seam to create a "tight" frame. We use clear lucite rods to attach the butterflies within. All frames come with hangers, and the 8x10's and 5x7's also have an easel back for table top or shelf display.
Treasure frames
Most of our treasure frames are black, with a few maple thrown in for good measure. They are 1 7/8" deep and have 12 equal sized compartments. As with our shadowbox frames, these also have a bead of silicone squeezed along the inside
glass edge to create a seal. We generally prefer to use most of the showier butterflies for these, and have the flexibility to use 12 similar sized or assorted sized butterflies to fill it. If assorted, some compartments would have 2 butterflies within.
Acrylic box frames
Our acrylic frames are one piece molded, with an acrylic back piece attached. They are approximately 1" deep, and of various sizes. We attach butterflies to the inside with clear acrylic rods that are solvent glued to the back. We finish the frames up by sealing them using the solvent glue to attach
back and front together. On 18x24's, we use silicone glue to attach the two pieces, making for easier repairs if necessary. All frames have one or two clear lucite sawtooth hangers solvent glued to the back, trying to hide them behind butterfly wings if possible.
